Arlington, Va. – Dominion National, a dental administrator for several leading health plans across the country, wants to remind health plans to consider their Medicare Advantage dental benefit strategy as Medicare open enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, 2021.
Traditional Medicare does not cover routine preventive dental services (such as exams, cleanings or x-rays), or restorative services (such as fillings, crowns or dentures). That’s why eligible enrollees look to Medicare Advantage programs to cover their dental needs. In 2020, 97% of Medicare Advantage enrollees had access to some sort of dental coverage.1
“The demand for dental coverage in Medicare is growing and is evident in the increasing number of Medicare Advantage plans offering dental benefits,” said Dominion President Mike Davis. “Health plans have an opportunity to look at including dental coverage in their Medicare Advantage programs if they do not already offer it, or enhancing their current dental coverage, to help increase enrollment, improve member retention, reduce medical cost of care and maintain a competitive product portfolio.”
